I watched an interview that Apple designer Jonathan Ive had with a few young designers. When he was asked what approach he would take when designing a lunchbox, he shared that he would make sure to not pay attention to the word 'box' because that would limit the design. When working on a redesign for shopping trolleys, I kept this idea in mind and it really pushed me to design a new and innovative design. 
Current shopping trolleys are bulky and hard to control especially in the small supermarkets in Hong Kong. Existing solutions have a product and human interaction that is less than ideal. Common issues with shopping trolleys include the wheels frequently becoming jammed and it is very difficult to control around the supermarkets which in Hong Kong are quite small. Another issue would be shopping trolleys are not always designed for light shoppers and sometimes are too large for people who just want to purchase a few items.
